Types Of Garage Door (Useful Guide)

Not all garage doors are built equal. There are different types, namely:

Up & Over Garage Door - a simple panel that is raised and tilted over your head

Sectional Garage Door - composed of four or five sections linked together via hinges and bends along a vertical curved path

Roller Garage Door - made of multiple steel or aluminium slats rolled at the top of the door to make an opening

Side-Hinged Garage Door - hinged at the sides like traditional double doors and opens outwards

Round-the-Corner Garage Doors - slides along the floor and turns to follow the inside wall of the garage

How To Install Garage Door Step by Step

Installing a garage door can be a complicated task. Here's how this is typically done:
Install the pannels and  secure the hinges
Place a reinforcement bar at the centre of the topmost panel and secure it with screws. Attach and secure the hinges on top of each panel. On both top- and lowermost ends of the panel, attach axle supports. Secure the hinges from inside the garage.

Install the track and spring assembly.
Attach brackets to the track's vertical pieces, and position wheeled axles to the side hinges and axle supports. Place the track against the wall with the axles properly aligned. Wound the cable to the bottom support, then put the spring assembly together and attach it to the track.

Install the springs, torsion rods, and pulleys.
Attach the spring anchors to the springs and secure them with the locking cone. Then, secure the springs to the header bracket. Insert the torsion rod onto the side header bracket holes and, at each end, attach the pulleys.

Attach the cable.
Take the cable up from the bottom supports, and wound it on the pulley wheel. Turn the wheel to pull the slack tight. Slide it to the header bracket and secure it
in place.

Tighten the springs.
Secure the torsion rod with a pair of locking pliers to keep it from turning. Tighten the spring as indicated in the manual. Once you have reached the right tension, secure it with bolts and remove the locking pliers.

How Much Does Garage Door Installation Cost?

The approximate prices of installing garage doors range from £650 to £9,000, fitting included. We at Fix Quick have this breakdown which includes the cost of labour and the materials required to build your garage door, including the panels, hinges, cables, and pulleys.

Up & Over Garage Doors - £799 to £6000

Side-hinged Garage Doors - £1599 to £4500

Sectional Garage Doors - £1699 to £9000

The abovementioned doors can be made electric by adding garage door openers to them. Ours are priced from £699 to £999.
